Ombak Bali is getting bigger, this year 14 surf films will be screened in 4 days. That’s a lot to choose from. When watching and selecting the movies for the festival everyone has it’s favourites. For different reasons of course. This year a jury will select the best surf film. The members are: Mick Curley, Renny Bee Febriani and Clemens Berger.                                                                                                                      Films in competition are: A Fly in the Champagne, Archy, Dear & Yonder, The Drifter, Havana Surf, Mengejar Ombak, One Track Mind, Out There, Under the Sun, Whitewash
Mick Curley
A surf, landscape and lifestyle photographer who shoots and writes for some adventure magazines. Besides that he owns Shoot Bali, a Photo Gallery in Legian. When he isn’t shooting he is usually surfing one of the many incredible waves found around Bali. Living in Bali for 3 years documenting the diverse culture and lifestyle he says: ‘If you ever say you’re bored in Bali there’s something wrong!’ Ombak Bali is pretty sure the festival films won’t bore him either.
Clemens Berger
With a background in skateboarding and snowboarding picking up surfing as a hobby seemed to make sense. Looking for perfect waves he arrived in Bali in 2001 and came back to live here in 2004 to work for Rip Curl as marketing manager. Since June this year he has decided to take some time off and fully enjoy the Bali life. Ombak Bali is glad he did, because this gives him time to watch all the movies at the festival.
Renny Febriani aka Bee
Originally from Yogyakarta Bee moved to Bali a few years ago. Here she works as a reporter for the Indonesian surf community magazine Magic Wave. Besides that this young talented girl is also a filmmaker. Bee loves making movies and Ombak Bali loves screening them. A match made in heaven as the audience can see for themselves on August 20. During the Beach Screening Bee’s latest doc ‘Mata Ombak’ will be screened. This is a short one so it will not compete for the Ombak Bali Award 2009.
